Vehicle Description 1971 Plymouth Duster 340 Tribute After a successful partnership with Warner Bros. studios to use the Roadrunner cartoon, (and sound), on the now legendary muscle car, Plymouth thought the Tasmanian Devil would be the perfect complement to the Duster line and had hoped to use his image on the car.  But negotiations didn't work out, so they created the cartoonish twister logo in house, and it has become the recognizable image associated with the car. For consignment, a 1971 Plymouth Duster 340 tribute with some engine and cosmetic upgrades.  Impact colors were a thing in this era and included such greats as Sublime, Go Mango, and Plum Crazy, and in 1971 included a one year only color, Curious Yellow was used, looking vibrant yellow in one light, and greenish is different exposure.  Our example graces our Hallowed Halls with 98,544 non verifiable miles on the odometer. Exterior Curious Yellow is rumored to have been named after a Swedish film that was banned in the U.S. but also possibly taken from the Curious George children's books and we suppose it depends on who you're talking to as to which story you go with. It covers the car with two stage shine and is sportified by a body length black stripe on the shoulder line, terminating with the 340 decal.  This non Sublime paint has been applied over a mix of both original and some new sheet metal including the trunk, quarter panel, and fenders and things are looking fine and dandy.  A snorkel type functional hood scoop tops the hood which is adorned with a large WEDGE 340 decal.  The shark's tooth grille grins widely and the marker lights creatively fill three of the teeth on each side.  The epic stacked slit taillights are surrounded by black stripes augmented by the Duster logo decal, topped by a pedestal wing.  14 and 15-inch Mopar Rally wheels occupy each corner, all looking good. The metal and paint are fantastic here and we could not find any glaring exterior imperfections.  Interior The outside meets the inside with vivid black vinyl door panels surrounded by a black painted header and bottom.  Tall bucket seats in black vinyl are in excellent condition with stitch style inserts and a metallic accent bar up high.  The rear bench, which also includes the nickel inlay detail, looks untouched.  A GT style steering wheel keeps with the color scheme, rimmed in black with triple spokes and shares the column a cartoon Duster logo where a gear indicator would be on a column shift.  The wood applique trimmed dash is relatively basic and surrounded by a black dash surround and housing a square speedometer and several round gauges.  A Kenwood head unit provides the tune with AM/FM/CD just under the vent control panel, also backed in faux woodgrain paneling. Near the lower vents, we find some added gauges for water temp and oil pressure and in the center console we find a Hurst Pistol grip shifter and the console is surrounded by black loop carpet in good condition under a decent black headliner and visors that could use some attention. Duster mats are in place to protect the base carpet, and the trunk is very clean and protected by a vinyl mat.  Drivetrain Under the hood, a clean orange 340ci V8 sits in sharp contrast to the Curious Yellow walls and wears a 4-barrel carburetor in front of an A727 Torqueflite 3-speed automatic transmission which transfers power to the 8 ¾ inch rear. No booster in sight, but you do have disc brakes up front and drums in the rear. Undercarriage Driver quality underneath with patina, some surface rust, and a small amount of residual oil, but nothing for us to register complaints, it's generally clean.  The dual exhaust enters FlowMaster mufflers before finding their way to the atmosphere via squared chrome tips. Suspension consists of torsion bars in front and leaf springs with traction bars in the back.  Drive-Ability Of the high impact colors, this might be the most impactful! We take th |
