Vehicle Description Cruisin Classics is proud to present to you this 1973 Plymouth Road Runner. If you are looking for a Mopar muscle car and like the fuselage body design of the more refined 1973-74 Plymouth B-body, you would be hard-pressed to find a more solid, straight, and honest '73 Road Runner. This car spent most of its life in the arid climate of Arizona, which is why all of the original sheet metal is rust-free on this Desert Bird. In fact, it still wears its original JY6 Golden Haze Metallic paint and white transverse stripes from the factory. The paint has developed a nice patina over the years in the hot sun and the factory stripes and decals have literally baked onto the car in a way that can only be replicated by time and nature. Up front, quad headlights in bright bezels flank a two-tiered black egg-crate grille with a nice chrome bumper below and black bumper guards. The muscular Power Bulge hood features dual faux air intakes, factory hood tie-down pins (J45), and sun-crackled decals announcing the 400ci engine that the car was born with. Just ahead of the hood is a round Road Runner badge that shares the same patina as the others. Atop each fender, you'll see working factory-mounted turn signal indicators (L31) for the driver. The sides of this Plymouth sport dual racing side mirrors (G37) dressed in chrome really add some pop to the profile view. White transverse stripes (originally white, now rather faded grey) start at the front tip of the fenders, travel down the sides, then rise up the rear pillars to meet on the roof. The patina of these stripes is undeniably cool to see in person! This Road Runner has a great stance courtesy of staggered tires (205/70R15 – front, 255/70R15 – rear) wrapped around a set of gleaming chrome Cragar SS wheels. Around the back, you'll find a chrome rear bumper that has become a bit hazy over the years and the original slotted machine gun exhaust tips (N42). When this Road Runner was born in January of '73 it was outfitted with a 400ci high-performance V-8 with a 4-barrel carburetor (E68) and a light-duty 727 automatic transmission (D34). The original engine and transmission are now gone and have been replaced with a correctly dated 440ci HP V-8 mated to a 727 automatic – a combo that came out of a '73 Charger and still bears the appropriate VIN stamps. The engine, water pump, heads, intake manifold, and valve covers have all been treated to a fresh coat of blue paint that looks fantastic. The V-8 is topped off with a newer-looking Edelbrock AVS2 4-barrel carburetor and what appears to be the original orange dual-snorkle air cleaner with a 400 4bbl decal. Other highlights under the hood include a newer distributor, good-looking cast-exhaust manifolds, power steering, and power brakes (disc/drum combo). The 727 transmission sends power to the rear tires via an 8 ¾ rear differential with 3.23:1 gears – perfect for freeway cruising. With standard equipment such as power disc brakes up front, front and rear sway bars, heavy-duty leaf springs and torsion bars, and isolated front and rear suspension, this car is much more pleasurable to drive than its older B-body cousins. Open the driver's door and step back in time with a largely original Gold interior. The door panels both look original and though they show some fading, are in generally good condition. A new-looking gold carpet invites you to step in and have a seat on the comfortable gold cloth & vinyl bench seat with fold-down armrest. The seats do show some wear and have a couple of missing button-tops, but they are free of rips or tears. The rear bench seat is unsurprisingly in better condition than the front. The windows still wear a light factory tint (G11) and the windshield has a small chip slightly left of center. The gold dash is crack-free and is home to a faux woodgrain gauge bezel and decorative panel with a Road Runner badge. The gauge bezel houses gauges for oil, fuel, temp, and alt as well as a 150mph speedometer an |
